Reflections on COP15

Perhaps I am carrying coals to Newcastle, but I want to urge you to consider the US media’s role in failing to educate the American public.  On December 7, as COP15 got under way.  The GUARDIAN published an editorial on hopes for the conference. Copenhagen climate change conference: ‘Fourteen days to seal history’s judgment on this generation’ It begins,

Today 56 newspapers in 45 countries take the unprecedented step of speaking with one voice through a common editorial. We do so because humanity faces a profound emergency.

Unless we combine to take decisive action, climate change will ravage our planet, and with it our prosperity and security.

Of the 56 newspapers which carried the editorial only one in the United States, the Miami Herald, carried it.  China had two newspapers carrying it.  As did Brazil.

Is it any wonder the American public is skeptical, if not illiterate on global warming?
