Gulf Oil Rig Blow Out

This is a major concern of mine so I will make my comments, etc, here.  My concern is that we have a sense of the depth and breadth of the reality we are confronting.  I start now with some links:

Naomi Klein has a great piece, “Gulf Oil Spill: A Hole In The World,”

“The Deepwater Horizon disaster is not just an industrial accident – it is a violent wound inflicted on the Earth itself. In this special report from the Gulf coast, a leading author and activist shows how it lays bare the hubris at the heart of capitalism…”

Have you been wondering about what realty is going on.  Here’s a fairly technical piece which makes clear that we can’t plug the hole because the hole is not a hole…

The Oil Drum “The magnitude and impact of this disaster will eclipse anything we have known in our life times if the worst or even near worst happens…”

In case you think that is some sort of off the wall opinion, here’s some videos from the main line media, BP Admits That – If It Tries to Cap the Leak – the Whole Well May Blow Up

NYTimes, 06/22/10, “Cold, Dark and teeming with Life.” on the deep ocean life.

HuffingtonPost, 06/22/10:  “of the over 500 turtles they have found, only 1 in 5 survive.”

BLOOMBERG, 02/24/10 “It’s completely scientifically dishonest to pooh-pooh the potential here when you are talking about some of the most toxic chemicals that we know,” said Kramer, who is founder and president of consulting firm Epidemiology International in Hunt Valley, Maryland. She isn’t involved with the Institute panels.

Check out the CDC website.

What?  me worry?  The CDC?  You’ve got to be kidding!  How about this: “BP welcomes you to THE apocalypse.”

“Never in all of human history has mankind been so capable of achieving a true global political psycho-social awakening; nor has humanity ever been in such danger of being subjected to a truly global scientific totalitarianism, potentially more oppressive than any system known before, and without a doubt more technologically capable of imposing a permanent despotism upon humanity. So we are filled with hope, but driven by urgency. In all of human history, never has the potential nor the repercussions of human actions and ideas ever been so monumental.”
